About Agency Owner Shari Rose
Backed by 9 years of experience in the SEO industry, I founded Cause Engine Marketing to support the missions of cause-driven organizations by strengthening the online reach they have with the communities they serve everyday.
Before entering digital marketing, I was a newspaper copy editor who wanted to reach more readers with the stories I edited. I knew there must be more effective ways of achieving online visibility for the important work these journalists were doing than the traditional marketing strategies that newspapers were still relying on at the time.
I left journalism and began working at a small digital marketing agency as a content writer to figure out what those approaches might be. Recognizing the incredible potential that search engines offered in reaching thousands of readers all over the country, I jumped headfirst into SEO and quickly switched positions at my company as a SEO specialist.
At the same time, I created my own website called Blurred Bylines where I wrote long-form articles about marginalized communities whose mainstream coverage is often minimal. The issues I covered focused on the LGBTQ+ community, people of color and survivors of violent crime with intersectional angles of social justice, personal identity and American history.
Over the next 9 years, I honed my SEO skills at different agencies and tested new search strategies on my own stories at Blurred Bylines to figure out what approaches produced the strongest results. The first agency I worked at as a SEO specialist had just a dozen employees; the second had more than 600; and the third had 50. The experience of performing SEO for drastically different companies with their own unique challenges and expectations taught me invaluable skills for balancing the needs of many clients without sacrificing the quality of my work.
With years of practice, I crafted my own SEO strategies to produce the best organic results for my clients and articles at Blurred Bylines, which I still run on the side.
